BTEC Construction with Electrical Installation

When it comes to managing building projects, construction and electrical installation go hand in hand. This combined BTEC course will not only provide you with a firm and thorough understanding of the construction industry, but will also provide you with specialist knowledge and skills in the field of electrical installation.

Explore health and safety issues relating to both the construction industry and electrical installation. Examine the technology used in both fields. Investigate the processes involved in building design. Acquire the skills to undertake electrical installation for domestic, commercial and industrial projects. Study the principles of electricity in-depth.

Requirements For Course

You must be over 16 to take this course. You must also be educated to at least GCSE standard D-G or hold an NVQ at level 1, or a GNVQ Foundation Certificate. Please note that parts of the course are mathematical in nature.

What You Will Learn

Health, Safety and Welfare

Examine the employer’s and employee’s responsibilities for health, safety and welfare in the workplace. Learn how to reduce risks in the workplace.

Construction Technology and Design

Explore the various stages of the design and planning processes, and examine factors that can affect these processes. Study both traditional and modern methods of construction. Investigate how water, drainage, gas and electricity are provided to buildings.

Electrical Installation (1)

Explore and evaluate a range of wiring techniques. Discover the requirements for earthing electrical installations. Examine the different types of final circuit, as well as their applications. Investigate the regulations and legislation that relate to the provision of electricity in buildings. Consider the application of standards and legislation to special installations.

Electrical Installation (2)

Discover a range of electrical design principles. Examine the IEE Wiring Regulations. Learn how standards and legislation apply to external installations. Explore how standards and legislation apply to the inspection and testing of electrical installations.

Electrical Principles

Explore the various components used in electronic circuits and learn their characteristics. Examine the differences between analogue and digital signals, and consider how these differences relate to control principles. Learn how both transformers and rotating machines are constructed, and discover their operational characteristics. Explore circuit theorems, as well as single-phase and three-phase circuits.

How You’re Assessed

You’ll complete two formative assessments and five compulsory assessments during your course.

These assessments can be submitted to ICS online via the Student Community, or they can be posted to ICS. It is recommended that you submit your assessments online as you will receive your results more quickly this way – in fact, for multiple choice assessments, you receive your results instantly!
